Mount Airy Snags Construction Contract
The receipt of
the Mount Airy Resort & Casino construction management contract was a
major accomplishment for LPCiminelli Inc.
LPCiminelli has
spent recent years ambitiously setting up gaming projects in hopes of
finding a niche in the gambling community. The company’s business
relationship with Buffalo-based, Delaware North Cos. has allowed them
to set up establishments mainly in New York, but in a few other states
as well.
Mount Airy is
not just another establishment.
The Mount Airy
Resort & Casino is the first Ciminelli casino project in the state of
Pennsylvania. It has the potential of creating endless opportunities
for the company, specifically its construction management division.
Company vice
president for gaming and entertainment, Frank Ciminelli II, spoke
optimistically about the project, “Obviously, we’ve been lucky to
leverage our relationship with Delaware North, but this is different.
This isn’t a racetrack or a racino. This is a resort that happens to
be trying to get gaming.”
Like many other
states in the nation, Pennsylvania is taking its first steps into the
gaming world. There are several sites in the state competing for a
state-sanctioned gaming license. Mount Airy is located in the Poconos.
State-sanctioned gaming is growing rapidly all across the United
States.
The Mount Airy
project is not exactly an inexpensive business venture. The cost of
constructing four restaurants, a 200-room hotel, an indoor pool, two
live entertainment venues, an 18-hole golf course, and a retail
component is approximately $360 million.
3,000 slot
machines will be added to the list of amenities, should the ownership
team receive a Pennsylvania gaming license. The ownership team is
lead by successful business entrepreneur Louis DeNaples. Future
plans for resort expansions include 2,000 more slot machines for the
casino and an additional 200 hotel rooms.
Construction on
the resort is scheduled to begin this year regardless of the fate of
the gaming component.
DeNaples and
Ciminelli joined forces after a chance meeting at gaming industry
convention last year. “We kept our ear to the ground and we found
him,” said Frank Ciminelli.
