New Treatments for Gambling Addiction

Gambling is a very old past time.  For many people it is a way to unwind from the tangling stress of day to day worry.  But just like everything else, gambling is only good in moderation.  There are many players out there with a serious gambling addiction.  The easy access of online casinos has created a new era of issues for problem gamblers.  A new study on gambling addiction at the University of Minnesota has uncovered two new, experimental, solutions to a very legitimate problem.  Some treatments may come as a shock.

The experimental drug nalmefene may help players with extremely serious gambling addictions.  Doctor Robert Freedman believes medication may be the answer for sever gambling addicts.  According to Dr. Freedman there is more complexity to gambling addiction than a social problem.  His research has indicated that compulsive gambling is triggered by activity in the brain.  Nalmefene can be used to monitor such activities.  The drug was tested in 207 subjects.  Nearly 2/3 of the participants showed a reduction in gambling urges as a result of the medication.

However, not all cases of gambling addiction are serious enough to require medication.  Treatment can be as simple as visiting online casinos more often!  Most, if not all online casinos, have free play games.  There is no money at risk on free online casinos.  Players can play their favorite online games as much as they want with out any financial damage.  They can kill time, unwind, and even bone up on their playing skills.  Take a look at your favorite online casino and check out their free games.
